The initial outbreak in K-P occurred in a town in Mardan, after a patient who returned from Saudi Arabia tested positive. He was also the country's first reported coronavirus death.

K-P declared a health emergency on March 4, and a partial lockdown was put in place on March 23.

Educational institutions, shopping malls, markets, restaurants, and other private businesses remain closed while inter-provincial and inter-city transport are also suspended. Factories, banks and the financial sector has been directed to reduce work hours.
